The Origin of “Phather Phil”…

The question of my “Phather Phil” designation has come up a number of times recently, so I thought it made sense to post an answer for all to see.  When I received my Ordination back in September 2009, some friends and I were having a discussion as to what they would call me in a Ministerial context.  I explained that for a number of reasons, Father Phil was appropriate and what I’d chosen to go by.  Shortly thereafter, one of them sent me an email and in the message referred to me as Phather Phil.  She explained that as my Religious and Spiritual perspectives were in some cases non-traditional, that name seemed much more fitting (and it played on my first name nicely).  I liked it, so it stuck and phatherphil.org followed shortly thereafter.  🙂

In Need of Your Healing…

Dear Lord; My prayers this morning are focused on a good friend who was in a car accident today. Please help Heal his body and spirit, and provide Loving Comfort to his family throughout this ordeal. Amen.  ~Phather Phil

For the Comfort of Friends…

Dear Lord; Today my thoughts and prayers go out to some friends who have been dealing with a number of emotionally charged situations as of late. These are very good people, and they’re very much in need of a break. Please wrap these people in Your Loving Arms, and give them Comfort knowing that You’re with them. Amen.  ~Phather Phil

Shelter from the Rain…

Dear Lord; On this rainy Monday morning my prayers go out to those in the area that have suffered damage to their homes or been hurt by the flooding we’ve had. While my family has been spared so far, I’ve seen the pictures and have friends that have been affected by this damaging weather. Please let them feel the Comfort of your Presence, and Protect them from the rains to come. Amen. ~Phather Phil

Please be our Compass…

Dear Lord; Today I’d like to send my prayers out for some friends who are struggling with direction. When the weight of the world feels overly heavy, it can lead us to question life choices we’ve made along the way and to doubt ourselves and our abilities. Please give those souls comfort and courage, and help them see the way forward with clarity. Amen.  ~Phather Phil
