Dear Lord; Well Father, it never ceases to amaze me where my thoughts are led when I’m communing with You. For whatever reason, this morning on my drive into the office I was thinking about how the news lately seems to be filled with nothing but tragedy and heartache, and the general despair and discord of our citizens. Senseless shootings, hateful protests, skyrocketing unemployment, financial hardships, a rising crime rate, natural disasters, and the list goes on and on. What the world needs I decided, is a Superhero. Someone who can swoop in and inspire hope, bring some righteous justice and order to things, and act as a beacon for people to rally around.
“I gave you one.” You whispered.
So You did! You gave us the single most impressive “Superhero” that the world could possibly know; Your Son, Jesus Christ.
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. – Acts 10:38
Wow… Even the fictional “man of steel” himself didn’t wield the Power of God. What an amazing Hero and Role Model You’ve given us!
Ok, so if we’ve been given the Ultimate Hero why are so many people in such despair?? Unfortunately, it’s because those folks just don’t know Him, and allow themselves to focus on earthly worries instead of allowing Him to lighten their burdens. If all of us use the “Bat-Phone” of prayer to call Him into our lives, the day (as well as our eternal souls) would indeed be Saved.
So as Christians, here’s our chance to be Heroes as well. If we live by His example, let God’s Light show through our words and actions, and share the Praises of His Good Works then we can bring that amazing power to more people. We can change the world, through Him.
Now that’s power.
Amen.

Dear Lord; Good morning Father. Today Lord, I want to follow up on a discussion we had earlier this week where we talked about finding my “One Word Focus” for this year. You and I have been “chatting” a lot about this over the last few days, and my mind’s been flooded with so many words describing parts of myself that I know could use work. Throughout all those deliberations and prayers however, I keep hearing one word in the midst of it all :
Accept.
Ok, message received… “Accept” it is. I’ll admit, it’s not quite along the lines of what I had originally conceived when I started down this path but I’ll Accept Your Guidance :-).
So this morning, I started contemplating what the word Accept means in relation to my life, and the more I thought about it the bigger the scope grew. There are so many things that I currently Accept (and possibly shouldn’t), and so many more that I need to work on. For example, as we discussed yesterday I need to work on the fact that my nature is to try and fix everyone’s problems, when obviously that’s not a realistic perspective.
I need to Accept that I’m not in control and that I can’t fix everything.
Wow… So, I’m starting to understand why you put this word in my heart Lord. I guess there are more things in my life that I haven’t fully Accepted than I had originally thought. This is a truly powerful word, and I thank You for seeding me with it.
Heavenly Father, thank You so much for instilling this focus in my heart and mind. As I contemplate and pray about this direction over the coming year, please lead me to recognize and Accept all Your Truths and proceed with them in Your Love. Amen.

Dear Lord; Happy Monday Father! Well Lord, I just want to thank You for another lovely weekend. Date night with my lovely wife on Friday was a blast, Saturday we began to reclaim our home from the Christmas decorations, and Sunday was a wonderful lazy day watching the epic 1956 film “The Ten Commandments” with my family. The house is still in quite a bit of chaos, but all in all it was a wonderful, productive time and I thank You so much for it.
I also want to take a minute to thank You for sending Your healing power to me over the last week. As You know I ended up at my doctor’s office last Wednesday with serious stomach distress. I was in a fair amount of pain Lord, and while I still have some discomfort it’s worlds better than it was. Thank You so much for Blessing me with an excellent Primary Care Physician, and for Your Comfort during this episode. It’s woken me up to some necessary changes I need to make in my diet, stress level and sleep habits if I want to avoid potentially serious medical issues in the future. Please help me keep proper focus and have the strength to make the right choices going forward.
And finally Lord, I’ve been hearing quite a bit this month about the idea of having One Word to focus and pray on for the new year, instead of a series of resolutions which usually don’t get followed through on. The more I’ve thought about the idea, and seen some examples on other devotional blogs the more I like it. Therefore Father, today I’m starting my prayers for You to help me choose the word that will guide me for the coming year. I place my heart and mind in Your Hands Lord, and look forward to Your Counsel on my focus.
Heavenly Father, please bring Your Loving Presence to all those in need. Help us be productive, focused and compassionate servants of Your Will, and guide us to where we can best be used for Your Grand Purpose. Give Your Comfort and Strength to those who are suffering, and help us all be extensions of Your Love on Earth. Amen.

Dear Lord; Good morning Father! Yesterday, our conversation focused on the events of the year we’re about to leave behind, and what I’ve learned from it. Therefore, today I thought we’d talk about moving forward, and some of the things I’d like to focus on for the upcoming year.
In holding with the last few Holiday posts I’ve made, I’d like to let my boys send their thoughts to You as well. To that end, I asked them this morning what they were hoping 2011 would bring and what they were going to focus on to help make a positive change in their lives.
Here’s what they said :
Jonathan ( Age 11 ) – “I’d like to be able to spend more time with my family. I want to learn how to do karate. I want to spend more time with our friends and relatives, and have them over more often. I’m going to be more involved in taking care of our animals. I want to finish the new Bible I got for Christmas and learn more about God. I’m going to work to be more thankful for the things that I have.”
Aidan ( Age 8 ) – “I’d like to see less crashes happen (car crashes) because I don’t want people to get hurt. I want me and my friends to have a fun time in school. I’d like my family to spend more time together. I want less animals to get abandoned. I’m going to finish reading my new Action Bible with Daddy and really want to learn about God. I’m going to work to get better at reading so I can read bigger books. I want to spend more time exercising. And I want to wish God a Happy New Year.”
They’re still one of my biggest inspirations Lord, and I see so much of You in them each day.
As for myself, well I’m not big on New Years Resolutions but there are some things I’m planning on focusing on this coming year.
- As I mentioned yesterday, it’s been a rough year for my business. I’m very much dedicated to it’s success, and I’m going to work diligently to get it back to the stability it once had.
- Although we are Blessed to have a very stable and wonderful home life, there’s always room for me to improve my contribution. I’m going to continue to work to be a better husband and father, and set as positive an example for my boys as I can.
- 2010 was an amazing year for my personal growth in You Lord, and I want very much to expand on that in the coming year as well. The closer I work to walk in Christ’s footsteps, the more I find the rest of my life gains meaning and direction. I’m also dedicated to bringing Your Light into my children’s lives, and teaching them the Love and Guidance You provide us every day.
Heavenly Father, I humbly pray that over the coming year Your Amazing Gift of Grace is felt by all Your Children. May we all experience the Joy in Serving Your Will, and walk the Path that Jesus has set for us in Your Holy Name. Amen.

Dear Lord; Well Father, the wedding on Saturday went very well. Thank You so much for being there and Blessing the joyful proceedings. It was an amazing honor for me to be a conduit for Your Love, and I absolutely felt Your Presence throughout. Please continue to Bless the happy couple’s marriage, and fill their lives with Your Love for the rest of their days.
This morning Lord, I did something I very seldom do… I lost my temper. It was over a verbal personal attack that was made against me behind my back by someone I’ve known for a long time, and it absolutely incensed me. Father, with Your help I do what I consider a very good job at maintaining my composure and “turning the other cheek”, but I’m ashamed to say that this morning I failed in that capacity. Searching for my center in Your Book today, I found :
Proverbs 16:32 – Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.
So true Lord. Please Father, help me purge those feelings from my spirit and focus my energies on serving Your Will. Fill my heart with Your Love and Kindness, and please help me be an effective agent of Your Disposition to those in need. Amen. ~Phather Phil
