Dear Lord; Happy Valentine’s Day Father!
Today Father, much of the world’s attention turns to “all things love” as we celebrate Valentine’s Day. And yet, while the greeting card, candy and jewelry companies would like us to spend our time and money focusing on the romantic and tangible side of our affections, I choose instead to take this time to reflect on those aspects of love in my life that touch me most deeply:
The amazing, intimate bond I have with my wonderful wife, Shannon…
The powerful sense of care and commitment I have for my children…
The deep, very personal relationships I’ve established with a few close friends…
And the overwhelming, transformational and ever-deepening connection I have with my Lord and Savior.
Such wondrous examples of Your love for me Father; such astounding Blessings in my life.
Thank You Lord;
For seeding Your love in me,
For seeking me through my brokenness,
For reminding me that I’m Your Beloved Child,
And that above all else,
You love me; perfectly and completely.
I’m Yours Father. 🙂
Amen.

Dear Lord; Happy Wednesday Father!
Today Lord, I simply want to say thank You.
As You know Father, the last couple weeks have been particularly stressful for me, and I’m afraid in several situations I allowed myself to weaken and give audience to Satan’s voices of dissent within my heart…
You’re not worthy of God’s attention…
You’re weak…
You’re alone…
I can still get to you…
And yet, through all these attacks on my spirit Lord, You were right there. You’ve quietly reminded me of my true identity, sent me fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to bolster my reserve, and through Your Word have helped keep my eyes focused on Your Kingdom.
And then this morning, You gave me a very special gift…
As I’ve mentioned before Father, I quite enjoy the path I take to work each morning. I consciously avoid the highway, and instead travel a series of smaller back roads that run through much more rural settings.
My route also holds one further benefit.
For a short portion of the drive, my truck heads due East; affording me a wonderful front-row seat as the sun lifts above the horizon behind the farmlands ahead. Most mornings it’s a lovely scene, but today it was particularly breathtaking. The air was vividly clear, save for a thin line of clouds that dotted the horizon. Lying behind that smoky veil, the morning sun’s radiance streamed upwards, seeming to burn rays of light into the heavens. It was truly a marvelous sight, and as I smiled in recognition of Your handiwork, You let me know why…
“It’s for you…” You said.
For me?? I momentarily struggled with my disbelief, but it was just too powerful; the wall came crashing down and I clearly understood Your message:
You love me Father, and You’d move heaven and earth that I should know it.
What an amazing gift Lord… I am truly humbled, and forever changed.
Amen.

Dear Lord; Happy Tuesday Father!
About this time last year Lord, I joined with many of my Christian Blogging brothers and sisters and began to think and pray about choosing a single word to guide my steps throughout the year. In the end, although I was unsure as to why at the time, You very clearly placed the word “Accept” on my heart.
As I look back over the past year Father, Your reasons for Blessing me with that word become very apparent. 2011 was a year filled with struggles, and joy, with pain, and enlightenment. And yet, when I attempt to “compile” the year’s experiences and summarize what truths I’ve been given in that time, Your word for me keeps showing up…
I Accept that I can’t fix everything, or solve every problem…
I Accept that I’m dependent Father; needy of Your presence in all parts of my life.
I Accept that only by consistently seeking humility before You, can I find true strength.
I Accept that I’m Your Beloved Child.
And so many others Father… “Accept” makes perfect sense to me now.
So now we come to 2012.
As You know Father, I started praying about this year’s word a couple weeks ago. You’ve been relatively quiet on the subject so far, but this morning on my ride to work You broke that silence…
Well Lord, once again, it’s not what I would have chosen, nor what I expected. Nonetheless, I trust You Father, with all my heart, and Accept this word as the precious gift it is. I have no idea what part my word will play in the coming year, but I Promise to keep my mind, and my heart, open to Your voice.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.

Dear Lord; Happy Thankful… Friday?
Well Father, as You’re no doubt aware I didn’t manage to get my Thankful Thursday post out yesterday afternoon. Instead however, of going into the Christmas weekend without listing out some of Your many Blessings in my life, I decided to make this “Thankful Friday”. 🙂
As we focus our hearts on celebrating the miracle of Christ’s birth Father, it seems only fitting to mark the beginning of this weekend by giving thanks; thanks for the daily Blessings You grace our lives with, and thanks for that Greatest of Gifts that Blessed our world so many years ago.
On that note Lord, this past week I’ve been especially grateful for:
451. The inspiring and entertaining selection of Christmas Music that’s been playing on 88.7 The Bridge this season.
452. The official release to the world of the new Ewell’s-St. Paul UMC website.
453. A fun dinner out last night with Shannon and Aidan.
454. A lovely array of Christmas Lights that brighten my drive home from the office each evening.
455. Free overnight shipping from Amazon.com. 🙂
456. That Jonathan doesn’t see brokenness, flaws, or differences in other children, just opportunities for new friends.
457. That Jonathan had a wonderful sleepover birthday party last Friday night.
458. The Light of a Star leading my heart to His manger.
459. A wonderful Chick-Fil-A lunch bought for our office by a good friend.
460. Being asked to write a guest post for a friend’s wonderful blog next month.
461. A wonderful afternoon with friends celebrating their foster son’s birthday.
462. The healing power of a good laugh.
463. Simple beginnings.
464. A fun night of fellowship with our Tuesday night Small Group.
465. The most important Christmas Gift even given; the birth of our Savior.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You Lord, for the multitude of Blessings You grace us with each day; both those that shine high in the Heavens, guiding us to a manger, and those that whisper Your love for us gently on the evening breeze.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.

Dear Lord; Happy Tuesday Father!
Come, Lord Jesus…
Driving to work this morning Father, You placed this all-too-familiar phrase on my heart.
And with it came so many thoughts…
When I was little, one of the most powerful memories I have of my grandmother (my father’s mother) is the Lutheran Grace she used to say when we sat down to a meal:
“Come Lord Jesus, be our Guest, and let Thy gifts to us be blessed. Amen”
She was a devout Christian Lord, and loved You with all her heart. When I was younger and she was still with us, I never truly understood her absolute devotion to You. As You know Lord, my early years were very much filled with turmoil; I was angry, and fearful, and through that haze of emotion You weren’t even on my radar. Through it all though, she kept Your Word in our lives nonetheless. When I see her again in Your Kingdom Father, I have quite a bit to thank her for.
Come, Lord Jesus…
In our brokenness Father, our hearts cry out to You. We live in a disconnected world Lord; one that tries desperately to focus our attention on its “glitter and flash”, and away from Your stalwart presence. Yet, in the midst of our sin and pain You sent Your only Begotten Son to cleanse the world, and lead us from our bondage.
Come, Lord Jesus…
In this Season of Advent Father, we not only celebrate the holy birth of our Savior, but also the eager anticipation of His return. It’s a time embraced by a sense of wonder at the coming of our incarnate God, and a longing in our spirits for divine deliverance from the world’s evils; when we open our hearts to rejoice at Your overflowing love for us and say…
Come, Lord Jesus!
Amen.
